The study of Shiʿi traditions, and scholarly practices serve as important areas of research within Islamic intellectual and social history.

The Islamic Manuscripts Press of Leiden seeks to bring together an international and inter-disciplinary group of scholars to address questions that are central to an understanding of Shiʿi Islam.

IMPL is dedicated to the study of Twelver Shi’i thought throughout history, up until the contemporary period.

IMPL aims to serve as outlet publication venue for original studies, critical editions of classical texts, and book reviews on Shi’i law, hadīth, Qurʾānic exegesis, philosophy, kalām, rituals and practices, classical and contemporary literature, and other aspects of the history of Shiism.
